Nikkiso secures major pump contract for Germany’s largest land-based LNG import terminal

A major deal just came through for Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group. They’ll deliver close to 30 submersible motor pumps. The destination is Germany’s biggest land-based liquefied gas import hub. Right now, it’s taking shape in Stade.

One order covers two kinds of pumps – high pressure, low pressure – for a job led by Hanseatic Energy Hub aiming for 2029 startup. Tecnicas Reunidas, running main construction duties, handed out the deal.

Twenty quiet underwater motors, some built for light push and others for heavy push, come from Nikkiso by 2026. These help the hub move several chilled gas types, fitting into wider plans across Europe to keep power steady while shifting toward cleaner fuel choices.

One thing first: the Stade site is getting two massive LNG tanks, among Europe’s biggest. Each holds up to 240,000 cubic metres of liquefied gas. When finished, it can deliver 21.7 gigawatt-hours every hour. That much power reaches close to 20 million homes.

First up, the project kicks off by setting up facilities for liquefied natural gas, BioLNG, and synthetic natural gas. Down the line, there’s room to add ammonia handling – this ties into how it’s becoming key for moving hydrogen as cleaner energy systems take shape.

Ole Skatka-Jensen, Regional Vice-President for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Nikkiso CE&IG, said: “Both Nikkiso CE&IG’s presence and our contribution to major energy transition projects in Europe continues to grow. We have expertise in providing equipment and service support for LNG as well as hydrogen and ammonia, and we are proud to be part of such an important project for Germany and Europe’s move to these lower-carbon fuels.”
